It is just over two weeks since Christmas day and I am only just getting back to normal. This year the boys went back to school on 8th January - the day before my birthday - which meant the Hubby and I didn't plan to get back to work until 10th.
Of course best laid plans and all that... Getting back to work properly on 10th didn't happen. Our heating issues are still going on and we had people in the house messing with our heating system again. Crossed fingers that's it now.
I am sitting in my office right now on Wednesday afternoon - an hour before having to fetch LP from school - and I'm trying my best to get into work. It doesn't seem to be happening. You see I took off about three weeks from blogging, I shut my office door, I closed the MacBook*, and I focussed on the family.
The family is one of nature's masterpieces.

Having time away from the blog has done me good. I'm feeling a renewed energy and I'm glad to be back to it. While the lead up to and Christmas Day itself were busy I've had quite an easy time since then and I've spent lots of time relaxing and being lazy. Sometimes I let myself get wound up about not doing enough, I don't allow myself the time to relax and have lazy days and as a result I end up stressed and on edge. The break over Christmas has been wonderful and has helped me get a little clarity.
And that's why I'm writing this post today - not to update you on what I've been up to (although that too!) but to tell you it's okay to be lazy and relax. The lead up to Christmas was busy, no doubt, but once the presents were opened, the turkey eaten, and the kids were off playing with their new toys did you allow yourself time to chill?
If not, why not?
Perhaps, now the kids are back at school, you can take some time for you. Sit and drink a hot coffee while watching your favourite TV series* or simply listen to your favourite music tracks without the kids yelling over it. Whatever it is you enjoy doing take time to do it now - now is your time!
If you do what you love, it is the best way to relax.

I agree that it is so important to take some time for you and I know that I am completely rubbish at doing that too. I'm so glad that you had a lovely Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nikki, I hope you did too. I think we're all a bit rubbish at looking after ourselves sometimes. As long as we get some time it's okay. xxx
DeleteNormal is overrated ... just saying
ReplyDeleteHaha I couldn't agree more Mac!
DeleteYou need to schedule 30 minutes a day for you. If you're over stressed, you can't take care of your family. Therefore, you have to take care of you.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, thanks Carol. x
DeleteI love my girls to bits but when they are at school, once my jobs are done around the house I do enjoy some time for myself. x
ReplyDeleteYay - good for you Kim! xx
DeleteI think it's sometimes harder to give yourself permission to relax than it sounds. I'm glad yo managed to get some down time over Christmas though, it is well deserved xx #pocolo
ReplyDeleteThanks Louisa, it is really difficult to allow yourself that time to chill out. That mum guilt is such a pain!
DeleteThis is why I'm not monitoring my blog, it became too much hard work and the pleasure of blogging was taken away from me. i started it as a hobby and I enjoy it, I don't want it to become a chore.
