10 things that make me happy

Sometimes it can be tough to find things that make you happy. Day to day life trudges on, the waves of life threaten to knock you down and you don't know where to turn. It's those times when I think of the things that make me happy. I cling to the best things in life.

With that in mind here are 10 things that make me happy.

1. A sunny day

Bright mornings mean you can start your day with a smile on your face. The sun shining throughout the day means there's no restrictions on what you could do. Everyone is smiling. The kids can play outdoors, you can have fun together, and it can go on late into the night.

2. A great playlist

There's certain types of music that make you smile, make you laugh, or just make you feel good. Amazon Prime has a brilliant playlist, it's called 50 Great Happy Songs and it's filled with old and new tracks to make you smile. LP loves it, he's started singing along whenever we play it!

3. Getting surprise pressies

I love receiving surprise gifts, not ones when you don't know what they are but the ones that you didn't know were coming in the first place. The kind that come completely out of the blue with a beautiful heartfelt message behind them. The Hubby recently presented me with a gorgeous new ring to celebrate 5000 days since we met! The best bit was that the ring was like one that I'd seen in a shop window when we were out shopping and happened to comment on how gorgeous it was!

4. A home-cooked meal that everyone loves

It's tough making meals every day that please everyone. Inevitably you end up the bad buy when you insist on the kids eating vegetables or deny the Hubby his bread. So when you all sit at the table and everyone comments on how lovely the meal is it can fill you with joy. All that hard work pays off.

5. Looking through old photographs

Seeing those snapshots of times you wanted to remember is great. Laughing at the faces the kids pulled on a ride, cooing at the cuteness of your little ones when they were babies, and remembering the day you brought those little ones into the world. Photographs are a glimpse of our past and even if they're bad photos they still manage to trigger memories.

6. A lie-in

Being a busy mum and blogger the lie-ins don't come very often, and when they do I'm lucky to stay in bed after 8am. When I get the chance to stay in bed longer it makes me smile. I have never been one to enjoy the early mornings (although they're somehow easier now I'm older) so any chance to have a proper lie-in is welcome. Not having to get up and immediately get to work is a welcome break.

7. A trip to a spa

A whole day just for me. Now that's what I'm talking about! From the moment I leave home in a morning the day is entirely about me and what I want to do. I can read, run, or relax and it doesn't make any difference to anyone. I love Eden Hall in Nottinghamshire and can't wait to go back there when I next get a chance.

8. Watching the Hubby rap to MC Hammer

Just thinking about this brings a smile to my face. When the Hubby rocks to MC Hammer I can't help but burst out laughing, he puts such effort into entertaining me it's wonderful.

9. My kids

They drive me mad every day, they make me want to scream at the top of my voice, but they're my little treasures. Not only can they entertain and make me burst out laughing but they're little (or not so little) bundles of joy. Listening to LP singing to his new favourite songs, watching BP quietly drawing new characters, watching them both grow into wonderful, respectful young men, it's what being a mum is all about.

10. Having a healthy and happy family

There are so many terrible things happening in the world that I am truly thankful that my family is happy and healthy. We enjoy days out, picnics, and play games at home and just knowing that they are all happy makes me happy.
