3 Ways to Spend Time With The Family (away from screens)

This time of year is great, everyone is planning to take time off work and spend time with their family.

The Hubby isn't going to be working over the festive period which means there'll be lots of time for us all to do things together.

Often though there's that sudden realisation...

What do we do?!

Before our lives were consumed with the internet and we spent days with our faces staring at screens we somehow managed to spend time with family, but it's easy to forget what you did isn't it?

We will be doing our best to have time away from our devices, making sure we are actually present in our children's lives.

Here's just a few of the things we'll be doing...

Play board games

3 Ways to Spend Time With The Family (away from screens) | Morgan's Milieu: Monopoly and Scrabble are great family games.

Anything from Monopoly to Scrabble, Game of Life to Mousetrap. We have loads of board games in our house and the boys have their favourites, Game of Life is one of them.

The funny thing about these board games is that you can all laugh together, you can chat and play, and enjoy the time as a family.

We sit with the game set up on our dining table, the four of us sat around the table, each with our designated areas. Even LP gets an area and he loves to join in.

Make sure you include the younger ones in the family (obvs!), even if they're too young to understand what is really going on they can be on your 'team' and they win if you do!

Jigsaw Puzzles

The Hubby and I love to do puzzles, and it seems that our boys do too.

I'm partial to the Wasgij range, I have a growing collection of them...

A couple of years ago we bought BP a Beano puzzle and The Snowman and The Snowdog puzzle and LP really enjoys piecing together his Batman puzzles.

The funny thing is that when the Hubby and I get out on of our puzzles the kids try to help. They want to help find pieces, or place them, and then they get the bug and pull out their own puzzles.

Either way, you're interacting with one another, away from the screens.

Lego Sets

If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen that the Hubby and I recently built our Lego Taj Mahal. We've had this set for years and absolutely love it.

3 Ways to Spend Time With The Family (away from screens) | Morgan's Milieu: Lego Taj Mahal, that we built together, was a great way to spend time together.

It's so much fun spending time together while building a lego set. Searching for pieces, playfully fighting over fitting pieces, and seeing the completed set (that you built together) is satisfying.

Not just that but I think it brings you closer together and you get to enjoy each other's company, again away from the screens.

We love lego, the boys have their own sets, and we have ours, but we all love working together. LP enjoyed helping us search for pieces when we were building the Lego Taj Mahal, and BP likes to place the pieces.

If you get a big enough set you could get the whole family involved!

How will you be spending time with your family (away from screens) this festive season?
