Dieting doesn't have to be painful

When you think of dieting you think of starving yourself don't you? It's that sudden restriction of food you enjoy, the fact that you need to be hungry in order to lose weight, why on earth would anyone choose to do that to themselves right? But dieting doesn't have to be painful, nor do you have to starve yourself in order to lose weight.

I am an experienced dieter.

My weight over the past few (okay, many) years has gone up and down more times than a yo-yo in a teen's hands. I guess that's why that call it Yo-Yo Dieter. I've been 14st 8lbs and reduced it to 10st, and everywhere in between.

Right now I weigh 14st 7lbs, this is almost the heaviest I've ever been. While I don't think my weight defines who I am I know I need to lose some weight. I'm tired all the time, I don't have the energy to do anything in the evenings and really my body has been sending me messages for a long time telling me to stop eating so much.

But of course it's so easily done. That cheeky Chinese for dinner, the extra slice of bread with a meal, or even the portion sizes getting bigger because you don't want to waste such a nice meal. I've done it all. I eat the same as the Hubby even though I know I shouldn't.

It is time.

Time to stop eating so much.
Time to stop drinking so much.
Time to listen to my body.

  • Your diet is a bank account. Good food choices are good investments.

The quote says it all really doesn't it? If we make the right food choices we will be healthier and maybe lose a little weight. That doesn't mean I'm about to start eating avocado on toast for breakfast (*shudders*) but it does mean that changes are afoot.

Like I said I am an experienced dieter and know what works for me without it being painful. I don't enjoy classic diet foods like salads on a daily basis or banning chocolate (OMG! I just couldn't cope!) and I have the answer, don't do that stuff!

There are meals you can eat that are tasty and healthy that will keep you full and help you lose weight.

Eating healthier meals, including eating more fish (excellent for weight loss) and managing portion sizes is the best way to kick start weight loss. This is my plan. I'm going to be reducing my portion sizes and I'm going to be eating healthier foods. Fast food is out, no more sneaky KFC just because we fancy it. Alcohol is out, the over indulging is no longer allowed - you'd be surprised how many calories are in those drinks! Lots of fish, lots of veg, and lots and lots of cooking.

None of the food I'll be eating while dieting is complicated to make and they're mostly easy meals that will keep the Hubby and I on track. I'll be sharing my recipes with you, there will be recipes to make that fish a little more interesting, putting cheese on potatoes (shock-horror!), and generally enjoying my food despite dieting.

Because dieting doesn't have to be painful!
