My Autumn/Winter Style Staples

When I put weight on I tend to get a little down, I like to be stylish but have been beaten into thinking it's not possible if you're overweight. Well that's wrong, I assure you. All you need is a few great staple pieces in your wardrobe and you're sorted. As the Autumn/Winter season will soon be upon us I decided to find the best style staples around.

During my search I came across the site Lyst, it's a shopping site with a difference. It looks very similar to other shopping sites but you can see clothes and accessories from lots of different brands including top brands like Ralph Lauren and Gucci on the same page as Topshop and River Island. Not only that but you can "like" an item and Lyst will notify you if the item goes on sale! Now that's a feature I like!

I spent hours searching through Lyst and here are my Autumn/Winter style staples.

Little Black Dress

Everyone loves a great black dress, it's a piece that will do for any occasion whether it's work or a party and when paired with the right accessories will make you look fabulous. The LBD works for any woman any size, can be worn with heels, ballet flats, or even boots. I love this LBD from River Island for £30 - the perfect price point. The 3/4 sleeves cover up the upper arms ready for the cooler weather, the plunge neckline and synched in waist emphasises will look great. This dress would look great on a plus size woman!

Cashmere sweater

There's no doubt that cashmere is one of the most gorgeous materials around during the winter months. It's soft, elegant, and keeps you warm. The neckline is a personal choice but I much prefer the v-neck to crew neck sweater because I can pair it with a great scarf and not be too hot. In the winter months I like to go for the brighter colours too, so this V-Neck Sweater from John Lewis for £89 is perfect. While cashmere costs that little bit more it'll stay beautiful for a long time and keep you looking stylish for years.

White Shirt

The classic white shirt can be teamed with jeans and a tailored Blazer, or you can go for the "business woman" look and pair it with a pencil skirt and heels. With jeans go for the open collar, rolled-up sleeves look and pair with ballet flats for effortless style. If you want the smarter look you could team it with a black or grey waistcoat and trousers, add black high heels, or even boots, for that office-ready style. The white shirt is so simple it can be paired with anything and you'll look great.

Blazer

I have only just taken on the blazer/jeans combo but now I've tried it I'll be wearing it a lot more as the cooler months roll in. The great thing about a blazer is it can go with your LBD to keep your arms warm or your white shirt for the office. It's lighter than a coat but will keep you just as warm meaning you don't have to cramp your style with a huge winter coat.

Cardigan

In autumn the weather is unpredictable so it's useful to be prepared. Grabbing a cardigan to go over the top of your summer dress or your t-shirt will keep your arms warm on the cooler days. As I said I like to pick up the brighter colours to counteract the darker days and I loved this Red Mila Cashmere Boyfriend Cardigan from John Lewis for £179 - it's cashmere so a tad expensive and I'm sure you'd be able to pick up something similar cheaper but I fell in love with this one.

Jeans

An essential in any wardrobe, never mind autumn/winter these babies are great all year round. It doesn't hurt to spend a little more on a good pair of jeans that will last and make you look fabulous. Whether they're skinny or wide-leg, blue or black (or even pink!) a comfortable pair of jeans can be paired with your favourite logo t-shirt for a weekend shopping trip. Team them with your white shirt, blazer and a great pair of heels for an evening out. Jeans are versatile and stylish and they'll never go out of fashion. The pictured jeans are available at Hugo Boss for £159.

T-shirt

T-shirts are easy to wear and you can express your individuality with the many logos and emblems available. Be yourself and be confident in your best tee-and-jeans combo!

Scarf

The sun is making less of an appearance, the rain clouds hang overhead and you need to keep warm but don't want to overheat. With a massive range of styles available it's easy to find the perfect one for you. The best thing about scarves is they're a lovely accessory and before you know it you'll have a huge stash of them. I love the pictured scarf, the coloured roses are gorgeous and it's bright, perfect to brighten my mood in the darker months. You can find the pictured scarf at John Lewis for £35.

Bag

A staple bag needs to be many things; it has to go with any outfit, hold all the things you may need, and have pockets or sections to separate your things (or is that just me?). It's got to be stylish, practical, and functional. Now if you're anything like me you've got lots (and lots) of bags and each one goes perfectly with a particular outfit, but your staple bag is "The One", the bag you couldn't do without. The Fiorelli Brown Primrose Tote Bag (pictured) for £55 is gorgeous and would be perfect for me!

Boots

In autumn/winter boots are essential, they keep your feet warm while making you look stylish. The best boots are comfortable and look good. While browsing I fell in love with these Timberland Women's Blue Earthkeepers Glancy Boots for £98 - I may have to be nice to the Hubby because I want these SO much! They'd go great with trousers and a white shirt, look fab with jeans and a t-shirt, and would even look good with a LBD.

I found all the listed items on Lyst and could easily have spent rather a lot of money on everything I found. I need to update my staple wardrobe as it consists of jeans and t-shirts at the moment. I really must go shopping.

What style staple would you add to my list?
