Kids summer shoes

As the summer is nearing (even though it might not seem like it right now) it's time to get prepared for the sunnier days. Not only do you have to think about your own footwear choices but you'll need to decide which summer shoes you'll be getting for your kids.

To help with your decision I've put together a selection of girls, boys and gender neutral shoes and sandals that would be great for your kids this summer.

Supermarkets

I'll start with the supermarkets because they're always my first stop.

At our local Tesco there isn't much choice for boys, but plenty for girls. It annoys me a little that the girls section is huge and I always struggle to find anything for my boys. But anyway, online there's a bigger selection and you can order something to be delivered to your local store if you want to.

Tesco

These Florence & Fred Fisherman Sandals cost just £8 and with the tan colour I think they're good for boys and girls. Coupled with denim shorts and their favourite t-shirt they'll be able to enjoy the sunshine and look good.

I love these little F&F Denim Glitter Low Pumps from Tesco too. Again these cuties cost £8 and would go great with pretty much any outfit. I think they probably appeal more to girls (thanks to that pink line) but I'm sure there would be some boys that would love them too. With a nice elastic patch on the front it means the front of the shoe won't rub when your child isn't wearing any socks.

Asda

Flip flops are the perfect summer sandal and these minion flip flops are brilliant for any minion fans. The Union Jack is a lovely touch and LP would certainly love them. They have an elasticated strap which goes around the back of their foot and textile for between the toes, ensuring that the flip flops are comfortable for your little one. Grab them at Asda for £5.

When both BP and LP were younger and we took them swimming I tried to make sure they had shoes on. These Nemo Aqua Socks can be worn in the pool and out and are great for protecting your little one's feet. Get them from Asda for £6.

Brantano

If the supermarkets fail then I'll try our local shoe shops, Brantano is great for kids shoes and they're usually not too expensive.

If your little one is anything like LP then you're going to need some tough and durable summer shoes. LP loves being outdoors kicking footballs around, running on the grass, and exploring the garden so shoes that will protect his feet while keeping them cool are essential.

I love this pair of Mountain Peak Outka Sandals from Brantano, and for £12 they're a great buy for a growing boy. They're listed in the 'girls sandals' section but LP likes the colour and I don't think they're particularly 'girly'.

The tough sole with protective toe area means that LP can kick the football to his heart's content without hurting his toes. They're easy to get on and off with the velcro fastening at the ankle and at the back of the foot so there's no excuse to spend ages getting shoes on.

House of Fraser

If all else fails I'll head online and do a quick search. I have a few favourites where I know I'll always get a bargain.

For the older ones it can be harder to find something that is both 'cool' and stylish without spending a fortune. On my search though I found these Hugo Boss Boys Flip Flops for £29 (now* on sale for £20.30) at House of Fraser. Simple and stylish with the Hugo Boss name, what's not to like?

For your girly girls there's these Monsoon Pretty Gem Flower T-bar Sandals are so gorgeous. At £22 they're perfect for walking through town on holiday or that summer wedding you're invited to. I'd buy these if they had my size! The lovely gold straps adorned with the sparkly gems will add a touch of 'bling' to any outfit.

I was sent the Mountain Peak sandals for purpose of review. All opinions are my own.
