Inspiring Friends

Thanks to a friend inspiring me last week my word count of 1,604 doesn't seem so bad.

Writing Bubble

The word count is low but I will not let the self-doubt demon in this time. I had so much going on last week that time flew by and before I knew it it was the weekend. That's when illness hit the household and I spent the weekend caring for the sick. Luckily, so far, I'm bug free and I'm hoping it stays that way.

I came up against a hiccup twice last week, Scrivener crashed every time I tried to write. It was frustrating and I eventually gave up. As a consequence I've spent some time mulling over the story and planning in my head. The good thing is that my writing hasn't stopped.

On Friday, inspired by a friend, I wrote my first poem of the year. Finding Me was written after a heart-to-heart with my friend. After that talk I came home and needed to write the poem. It flowed  and came from deep within.

My word count may be low but the creation is still in me and I'm delighted to be writing poetry again.

How has your writing week gone?

  1. I don't think that's a bad word count AT ALL! Besides which, as you say, you're still creating and enjoying writing. Fab poem by the way - just popped over for a read. I went through a phase of writing loads of poetry and now I barely ever write any - glad you're getting back to it. Thanks for linking to #WhatImWriting

    1. Thanks Maddy. Like I said, I'm glad to be writing anything creative at the moment and as long as I'm making some progress I'm happy. I'm clinging to that positivity for dear life! :)

  2. Yes, that is a lovely poem - you can't get much more creative than that. My writing is in fits and starts, as far as the novel is concerned, as I've a lot of work on, but it's going in the right direction, so I'm pleased.

    1. I think writers, as a group, go in fits and starts. Any progress is a win in my mind and like you say, you're heading in the right direction so that's all that matters. Thanks for giving that poem a read and thanks for your lovely words. xx

  3. I think you need to celebrate your word count - whatever it is! The main thing is to just keep going and never think that you're not doing well enough. My word count for the past week has been 0!

    1. You're right of course, look at that silver lining. I hope your week hasn't been too bad, just search for that silver lining - I know there is one. xx

Ps: I have been trying to head over to your blog to give it a read but there's some sort of problem. I'll keep trying though. x

  4. Great poem. It may be a cliche but sometimes it really is quality rather than quantity that matters :) I hope you manage to stay sickness free and Scrivener sorts itself out to make this week a little easier! X

    1. Thanks Sophie. So far so good with the sickness but I'm staying wary. I don't know what's up with Scrivener but it was okay yesterday. Thanks for the encouragement. xx

  8. Some weeks my word count is barely a few hundred so well done! I think it's the creativity feelings that are most important, it can be tricky when you feel as if these have gone missing, so it all sounds good form where I'm standing. And there really is nothing quite like a good talk with a good friend and I'm glad it inspired you as well xx

  11. Good luck with the poetry! It's great that you're writing, even if you didn't get to the word count you wanted.

  12. It's hard to get anything done when there are kids to think about and households to look after, especially when they're ill! Hope all better and you didn't get it! Poem is fab, I always feel good after I've chatted to a close friend :) x #pocolo
