Inspiration

I'm back!

It feels like weeks ago that I was raving about things going so well. Ha! Famous last words.

As predicted it blew up in my face. Not even the organisation helped me. And then I got completely swamped with blog design and 'structured data errors'. OMG I never knew blogging would be such work!

Anyway, *takes a breath* I'm back. On Thursday I was so frustrated at not creating anything that I made myself sit until I'd written something. I glanced out of my window, stared at the distant hills, fog blurring the trees... BAM! Inspiration hit.

It was amazing and even though the piece was dark (quelle surprise) I was smiling the whole time. Words filled my head and my fingers raced across the keyboard. From now on I'm going to try to carve out time for creation every day. I've said before that I always feel better when creating.

As for the book I'm giving myself a break. I've put myself under a lot of pressure to finish but I don't work well that way. The book will be finished when I'm ready, even if it takes years. Okay so it's already taken years but how is it going to be great if I don't give it time?

  1. I found your recent piece of flash fiction brilliantly intense, terrifying and exceptionally dark! You have an imagination on you that's for sure!!

Welcome back and don't feel bad about taking a break from the book, sounds like a great idea xx #whatimwriting

    1. Thanks Renee! When you write something so intense I think a break is necessary. I'm sure I'll get back to it eventually. xx

  2. Yay! So glad you're back! And I loved that piece of flash fiction (I *may* just have included it in my britmums round up...). Glad your inspiration is back and I think it's fine to take time off the book - that's what I'm doing with mine at the moment. I'm planning on returning to it newly inspired next year! 1. Thank you Maddy! It's funny how inspiration can strike like that. I think you're right about coming back in the new year, I'll probably do that too. And I'll definitely be checking out your round up - whether I'm in it or not! ;) xxx

  3. I too feel so much better when I'm able to write-someone told me that writing uses different cognitive processes to the ones we use for our thoughts which remain in our heads and I've really noticed this recently. Good to se you back :)

    1. Thank you. I'd have to agree about the cognitive processes. It's only writing fiction that gives me that release. :)

  4. I can so relate to this! I have weeks where I have to really hunt for ideas and then weeks where inspiration finally strikes and my head is far too full and I can't possibly write everything down! Glad to here that you've found your inspiration again, and I loved the piece you wrote last week :) #whatimwriting

    1. Thank you Sara. I'm just the same, inspiration often hits me at the most inopportune times. I think I was lucky last week when I was simply looking out of the window. :)

  5. Carving out time for creativity is essential I think, it's so easy to get distracted by the rest of life and beat yourself up for not getting any writing done. And a book takes as long as it takes - it's certainly something you can't rush! At least you're getting some good stuff written so you're doing something right.

    1. I totally agree Emily. The time is necessary and whether it's hours or minutes as long as I'm writing something, I'm happy.
Thank you for your lovely words. xx

  6. Everyone moves at their own pace when writing a book. One of the things we do a lot is forget to prioritise our writing and creativity and that can make us grouchy and uninspired. Congrats on finding your mojo again. xx

    1. Thanks Chrissie. It is difficult to prioritise writing, especially when you have boys raving about the latest Xbox game that they simply must have! Glad to be writing again. :)
