The Liebster Award

Being a housewife and mother I find it hard to find the time to write. Sometimes I go more than a week without writing a word and that means I get irritable. Writing has become my stress relief and it really works. When I’m writing I can feel the stress melting away and I feel like me again. Unfortunately this doesn’t happen often enough, with cleaning the house, potty training a 2 year old and feeding the hubby time seems to slip away and I find that there’s no time left for writing. As a consequence I’ve had to give myself a routine for blog posts, this way I can have time to think about what to write and I (hopefully) don’t run out of things to write about.

Well this week I have been given something to write about by Jack Flacco. It’s called the Liebster Award and is given to bloggers with less than 200 followers. Hopefully this gives those bloggers more attention. I’d like to thank Jack for giving me this award, he made me a very happy lady! Writer of The Necklace and a supporter of all writers, Jack Flacco is currently writing his second book. Check out his blog, I promise you will be entertained.

The rules of engagement for this award:
  • Thank the person that nominated you on your blog and link back to them.
  • Nominate up to five other blogs for the award.
  • Let them know via a comment on their blog.
  • Post the award on your blog.
My nominations are:

Rod Tyson
Christine Benson
Susan May
The Highly Unlikely Housewife
Rebecca @ Here Come the Girls

So, after going to pick up my eldest from school I’ll have a couple of hours (maybe) to get some writing done. Maybe I’ll get another chapter finished. Or maybe the kids will end up fighting and I’ll close the laptop and go yell at them then give up and tidy the house instead. Who knows. What I do know is that I will write at some point and I will finish this book. I will also continue to blog, it won’t be as often as I’d like but I will keep at it. We all have to make sacrifices to get the things we want and I think mine will be time. Time from cleaning or time from the ironing, maybe I could get the hubby to do the ironing instead, what do you reckon? No I don’t think so either but I can dream.

  1. Thank you for my Liebster! Will blog it tomorrow. Hope you manage to get another chapter done ASAP! My advice? Forget the ironing! :-)

    1. I did forget the ironing to get some writing done. The only problem now is I seem to remember the basket being full and I can't remember where I put it! It's been so long since I saw it. ; )

I'll look forward to reading your blog. : )

  2. Wow, Morgan! Thanks for all the kind words! You have definitely put a smile on MY face tonight, that's for sure! :)

Writing's like that. I also find it therapeutic and a way of escapism from the day-to-day chores. I can't let a day go by without writing something, anything. If I do, I fall into a dark place...and I've been there far too long in the beginning of the year to go back to that! NOoooo waaaaay!!

BTW, thanks also for all the support you provide me with my blog. It certainly excites me to know I always have positive words to read whenever I read anything from you, Morgan! :D

  3. Thank you Morgan. How very kind of you to nominate me. Your blog is lovely and I do apologise for not visiting sooner. Don't put yourself under stress about when you write. I am in the same boat. It can be frustrating not to write but then your family is important and a priority.
As you know, I always say, Read Write Repeat and one day you will turn around and be very impressed with how far you have come.

    1. Susan, you're right about family being a priority. I don't think I've put my writing ahead of them yet and don't intend to. Sometimes, when I've not written for a while, I can hear it calling me and when I can't write, for whatever reason, I hate it.

Thanks for visiting and thanks for the kind words. Like I said on your blog, you're a useful source of advice for new writers and I love your writing. : )

  4. Congrats on the award!

One thing you can do as a writer that is also for your children is read to them. Some of my best memories from when my son was younger are the times I read epic stories to him like The Hobbit, Narnia, and Harry Potter. He could sit for hours and listen to me read, and I got to read a bunch of things I wouldn't have read ordinarily, which has helped me as a writer down the road. Better yet, write stories for you kids or write down the stories you make up for them. They might work harder to get along and give you space if they know you are a creative genius at work :)

  5. Thanks. : )

I've always read to the children and enjoy doing it. However, at (almost) 3 years old and 7 years old they have a short attention span. My eldest does like me to read but the youngest plays! I'll keep trying though. Eventually I'm sure he'll enjoy it.

I'm still waiting for them to get along though! ; )

  6. Congrats Morgan,

And I'm with THUH above... stuff the ironing... it's overrated... I am a stay-at-home dad of three boys under five... I've found that by changing their clothes weekly and feeding them only when I remember has helped... sure I have stinky, hungry kids running around, but the sixty-seven words I write every second month are so worth it :)

  7. Thanks Mark!
That made me giggle! I'm rather frustrated at the moment because I've not been able to get much writing done but now that the house is relatively tidy I'm hoping tomorrow will be a writing day. However, with the kids you never can tell what's going to come up next. : )
